Building a community of joyful learners!
At School to Purpose Academies, we are passionate about providing a safe and supportive learning environment to all individuals. Our story began with a desire to end the school to prison pipeline through making education accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or location. We believe that an equitable education is a pathway out of poverty, a powerful tool that can transform lives and create the positive change we so desperately need in the world.
Our mission is to Educate, Organize and Take Action to fulfill our purpose of promoting growth mindsets and relationships to end the school-to-prison pipeline and cultivate the SCHOOL-TO-PURPOSE
PIPELINE!
We envision a joyful community of learners who seek to discover meaning in the world around them, and the world within them, so that they may positively change the world in which we live.
We believe that learning should be tailored to reach each child where they are while being engaging, interactive, and fun. That's why we have developed a unique approach to education that combines innovative teaching modalities with cutting-edge technology in order to nurture every child's learning style. Our blended learning environments allows our children to exercise their curiosity and critical thinking skills.
"They don't have to try to figure out how to navigate something — there's nothing to navigate," Wood said.
The Student Development Coaches provide a safe and supportive learning environment for multi-grade instruction that leverages technology and project-based learning.
The Student Development Coach is a coach, facilitator, and guide of the student learning experience for Pre K- 12th grade. Our Microschools encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning and behavior in a safe and supportive learning environment.
We believe we all learn best when given an opportunity to show off what we have learned. Project-based assignments are personally meaningful, encourage creativity and provide space to solve problems.
Our microschools support blended learning environments which consist of grade level bands (pre-K, K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, 9th-10th, 11th-12th) utilizing a variety of online and in-person resources to facilitate and engage students in their learning.
Our microschools have 5-10 students in a learning environment that provide a safe and supportive learning environment for our children, parents and coaches. Our microschools are served by 1-2 Student Development Coaches per microschool.
Our team of experienced coaches are passionate about helping their children reach their full potential. Individual Development Plans provide individualized support and feedback to make sure each child succeeds.
Our microschoolers use practical experiences, set daily goals, and learn to embrace challenging work through reflection and critical analysis that leads to growth, character, and mastery.
We strongly believe parents are the experts on what is best for their children. Involved parents recognize their home environment is an extension of their child's learning environment. When our children see their parents have a good relationship with their Student Development Coach, this creates a more positive experience for them and helps them to excel at learning and achieve at a deeper and rigorous level.
Founder and CEO of the Black Mothers Forum, Janelle Wood, wants to ensure that Black children are safeguarded and prepared to excel in educational settings.
“If we stop the school-to-prison pipeline, children will get the education they deserve.”
Founded by mothers long concerned about the safety and welfare of their Black children, BMF is an Arizona-based education advocacy group that responded to the COVID-19 crisis by launching two microschools for Black families in Phoenix, Arizona, in January 2021. BMF partnered with Prenda, a well-known microschool provider, but adapted their model to better meet the needs of Black families.
